Nando's Ex-PERi-PERi-ene : "Espetada Carnival!"

The Nando’s story started centuries ago, when the Portuguese explorers set sail for the East in search of adventure and the legendary spice route (Courtesy).

PERi-PERi sauce that inspired Fernando Duarte to invite his friend Robbie Brozin

The winds of Africa called them ashore and it was there, under the warm sun, in the rich soil that they discovered the African Bird’s Eye Chilli or PERi-PERi. A spice like no other, they used it to create a unique sauce that put fire in their bellies and ignited passion in their souls. A few hundred years later (in 1987 to be exact), it was the same PERi-PERi sauce that inspired Fernando Duarte to invite his friend Robbie Brozin to a humble Portuguese eatery in the heart of Rosettenville, South Africa to try some mouth-watering PERi-PERi marinated and basted chicken. Tt wasn’t just the best chicken Robbie had ever tasted; it was love at first bite! It was love at first bite! The rest, as they say, is history. Today, you can find Nando’s restaurants, our addictive sauces and tasty grocery range right around the world. Whether you’re a first-time visitor, or an old friend, we can’t wait to welcome you and serve you a delicious fix of PERi-PERi! (Courtesy)
The word PERi-PERi or Pili-Pili is Swahili for the African Bird’s Eye Chilli. Nando’s reckon it was named twice because it tastes so nice! It's Screams of Chicken!!! & Chicken .....& I am  not going to chicken out..!!! to let you folks know what  I think!!! Invited to Church Street Address# "Nandos: rule the roost or as you folks have have cooked your goose "PERIFECT!" What a Portuguese tradition & wish to inculcate this at home!!! Minha casa é sua casa, or in English, our home is your home & by doing so my family and friends will always enjoy a warm welcome at Nando’s!!! We observed that all restaurants have their own special design, as I have traveled around Europe & found every restaurant different!!! including the recent visit at Church Street in namma Bengaluru , unique I must admit!!!

The menu screams chicken!!! and that we were here for discovering the  "Espetada Carnival!" I appreciate the effort for enticing the  vegetarians who have been on par in terms of options including salads, hummus, burgers and several sides.Mango Sangria, Madeira Red, Citra, Poncha Zurra Rosa Fresca are a few interesting beverages options. Also check out the conversational tone of the menu & wordplay!!! "Choose your heat before you eat" - Peri-o-meter ("Extra hot, Hot, Mild, Lemon & Herb!")

We did take a peck at the appeteasers "Peri-Peri Humua & warm  Pita", Chicken Livers  Portuguese roll, to soak into the signature Extra hot, Hot , Mild sauce! paired with Mango Sangria, Madeira Red, Citra.. through out the blogger table experience!!! The Chicken Espetada Carnival , was  the "Showstopper!" Flame grilled peri peri chicken thighs stuffed with garlic , parsley and feta skewered with mixed peppers and served with a side of butternut squash and grilled corn, PERi chips and mango sangria . the main course, was quite a visual treat, in addition to being a reasonably tasty dish, despite the deceptively bland butter. The Chicken Strips & Rice was a good recommendation with some element flavour. The potato wedges, complimented very well.....good. The sauces"African Bird’s Eye chilli" , famed for their spice : finally discovered :)

The Espetada is a typical Portuguese dish made usually of large chunks of beef rubbed in garlic and salt, skewered onto a bay leaf stick cooked over hot coals or wood chips. Other meats including pork and chourico are also commonly used, but there are also other types like those made from squid but this is not a typical Dish from Madeira. The dish is served on a skewer which hangs from a hook on a stand as it is presented to you!!! Loved the Espetada Carnival Meal..: tender PERi-PERi marinated chicken thighs with stuffed with garlic, parsley and feta skewered with mixed peppers and served with a side of butternut squash and grilled corn, PERi chips and mango sangria !!!
