The Thai food festival, Chiang Mai
Food Festival menu includes a mix of authentic vegetarian and non
vegetarian food. I am taking liberty to quote..... I happened to get my like minded folks, in fact peruse for a food festival!!!
Since Benjarong hosted the ‘Chiang Mai Food Festival’ for the first time in
the city at their restaurant. The festival will feature authentic Thai
recipes from the Northern Thailand region of Chiang Mai, recreated by
Benjarong’s experienced Chefs, Anand is worthy of mention. Chiang Mai, also known as the ‘Rose of
the North’ is one of the oldest and most culturally significant cities
of Thailand and its recipes which originated thousands of years ago are
highly spoken of. It is said that the charm of Thai cuisine lies in its
regional influence and this is a perfect festival to explore the
authenticity of this unique cuisine. What makes the Chiang Mai cuisine
so special is that the food is inspired from the culture and the age old
traditions of Thailand, little spicy though!!!
I decided to pair Black Dog Scotch's Reserve (Black Dog 18 year old) with the Thai Cuisine!!! As a foodie, I do a 360 degree review, & keep trying & let the world wait :) The Appetizers included Gai Yang Som Tam ,which is a spicy red curry paste
marinated chicken grilled and served with classical raw papaya salad.
We were also served Aep Goong , Lanna style succulent prawns delicately marinated and wrapped
in banana leaves and grilled and Hed Hoo Noo Tod Namprik Pow (crispy
fried woodear mushroom tossed with roasted chilli paste and Thai sweet
basil). The Mung korn pong kari, lobster cooked with Thai curry powder and celery; and a fried rice with smoked chicken and fresh coriander.
In fact every house hold in Thailand has this starter- We sampled along with Black Dog Reserve the "Miang Kham"- “eating many things in one bite”. A burst of flavors include chillies, peanuts and onion, ginger, lemon, it's really a bomb, eaten similar to a betal leaf or paan :)
